Webinar 2 hosted Sowmya Marriyapillai Ravisandiran from the Leiden University in the Netherlands who presented her latest research with the title

"Uncovering hidden flows of plastics. A Case Study of Plastic Waste Management System in the Global South: Chennai, India"

Sowmya Marriyapillai Ravisandiran is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University. She is currently in the second year of her doctoral research, where she is contributing to the EU project, FutuRaM (Future Availability of Secondary Raw Materials). Her research involves tracking and quantifying secondary raw materials in the municipal solid waste (MSW) stream in the EU, using tools such as dynamic Material Flow Analysis (MFA), Life Cycle Assessment, and statistical methods to perform material quantification, environmental impact assessment, and scenario modelling of critical raw material recovery. Her research interests lie in quantification of material recovery from wastes, circular economy, and the role of the informal waste sector in the global context of waste management.
