Simon Graf (BOKU), Lilian Pungas (CEU) and Sarah Ware (CEU) from the REMASS team participated in the 2025 joint 18th Conference of the International Society for Ecological Economics and 11th International Degrowth Conference.
The event provided a vibrant platform for engaging discussions, presenting ongoing work and connecting with other research initiatives. We were excited to exchange with researchers from REAL project, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and the Institute of Industrial Ecology at Leiden University.
Simon presented the efforts and preliminary results from a systematic review on Provisioning Systems. He addressed the challenges of reviewing this heterogeneous, emergent and dynamic field – highlighting the existence of a largely disregarded but substantial body of literature on production-consumption systems that aligns with our area of study.
The REMASS team discussed which Provisioning Systems are underrepresented and will need more attention in the future. The challenges of common definitions and concepts closed the discussion.
Simon, Lilian and Sarah received vibrant feedback, especially regarding the initial mapping of the research landscape and how they can collectively advance socio-metabolic research in the field of provisioning systems.
