Austria’s first Symposium4Future, organized by Scientists4Future, was held in St. Pölten on October 10.

REMASS PIs Anke Schaffartzik and Stefan Thurner presented and led discussion groups on Data justice for socio-ecological transformation and How quickly is the energy transition unfolding?

Their complementary inputs both detailed what types of insights are possible with access to the high-resolution data and computing power channeled for REMASS and critically examined how much more data is needed and by whom so that we may make meaningful progress towards sustainable transformation.

The truly interdisciplinary symposium opened up new channels for discussion and further development of the REMASS research agenda, including considerations on what it takes to build narrative agency (Prof. Franzisca Weder) and what role humor might play in successful science communication (Assoc.-Prof. Thomas Brudermann).
