The project officially started in October 2024, and we enjoyed a highly productive REMASS kick-off meeting in December 2024 in Baden.
Led by BOKU University, 6 partners will be working on this FWF funded Emerging Fields project for the next 5 years.
Over the course of the meeting, participants engaged in in-depth discussions about the project's scope, first steps, individual contributions, and expected outcomes. The collaborative exchanges laid the groundwork for three key objectives:
Developing global sociometabolic databases with unprecedented resolution, building on existing work at the Institute of Social Ecology (BOKU) and the Institute for Ecological Economics (WU Vienna).
Integrating sociometabolic research with non-linear complex system modeling from the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, enabling assessments of system responses to economic and environmental shocks and quantification of resilience.
Exploring the malleability of social metabolism, connecting sociometabolic data with the study of actors, institutions, and power
relations across three fundamental provisioning systems: housing, nourishment, and mobility.
Beyond structured sessions, the event provided valuable opportunities for partners to meet in-person, fostering deeper connections and collaborative synergy.
