On May 20 Lea Tamberg, a PhD student at the University of Lausanne working with Julia Steinberger (REMASS project advisory committee), gave a talk at BOKU SEC.
Her presentation, titled “Socio-economic and biophysical prerequisites for human wellbeing” explored what wellbeing means on a finite planet and how it can be achieved with low resource use.
Drawing on her PhD research, she examined different conceptions of wellbeing and their determinants, highlighting human needs as a central lever for decoupling wellbeing from economic growth.
Lea also discussed historical evidence showing that robust public provisioning can successfully satisfy essential needs while limiting resource demands.
The talk was followed by a lively discussion on conceptions of wellbeing and the implications for a good life for all within planetary limits with scientists from the REMASS project, BOKU SEC and IIASA.
